Special Educational Needs (SEND)

‘Everyone is included and everyone belongs.’

We are committed to creating an inclusive environment that supports every pupil's unique needs, including those with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). We recognize the importance of diversity and aim to provide personalized learning opportunities for all pupils, ensuring they can reach their full potential. Our staff members are trained to adapt teaching methods and resources, offering additional support where needed, whether through specialized interventions or tailored teaching strategies. We foster a culture of empathy and understanding, encouraging all pupils to appreciate the value of inclusion. By promoting accessibility, collaboration, and positive relationships, our school ensures that every pupil, regardless of their challenges, feels valued, respected, and empowered to succeed.

Our SEND Vision is that:

  • All children with SEND will achieve positive outcomes, to make positive academic progress and to develop the life skills to prepare for their role as active citizens.
  • All SEND children will have the opportunity to access the full curriculum and participate in a wide range of activities across the school community and to do so with confidence.
  • All children will enjoy a fully inclusive environment and experience throughout their learning journey and into adulthood.

Our highly skilled and experienced SEND team are passionate about supporting pupils to achieve what is set out in our vision. Our SEND team will be working with pupils and families to ensure that all children with SEND fulfil their potential.  Every term we will offer opportunities for families to talk to us with our 'coffee and chat' events - in our 'SEND cafe' so that we can regularly hear your views and seek to strengthen our home-school partnership.

Warwickshire Inclusion Charter

The Warwickshire Schools' Inclusion Charter is a commitment from Warwickshire County Council to ensure that all schools are places where everyone feels valued, included, safe, supported, and welcome. This charter aligns with the SEND Code of Practice and sets out what all children and young people and their families should expect from schools in Warwickshire. It emphasises the importance of listening calmly and respectfully, establishing clear communication, and recognising that all behaviour is a form of communication. The charter also aims to provide reasonable adjustments, support families, and ensure that children and young people with SEND are valued and included in pupil voice activities.

Specialist Resource Provision - Orion

The Specialist Resource Provision (Orion) at Higham Lane North Academy is a resource base that offers a bespoke programme of support to pupils whose primary area of need is Communication and Interaction with Autism.

Pupils enrolled in Orion access a nurturing and personalised and bespoke curriculum, based on their individual needs, delivered by staff based within the provision and the mainstream environment. Pupils who are able to access the curriculum in the mainstream classroom are supported by our team throughout this transition.

Our Specialist Resource Provision is fully integrated within the wider school SEND offer to ensure pupils enrolled within the provision are given the same opportunities as all pupils within the school.

We aim to develop the crucial skills and attitudes each pupil requires to be successful and to ensure that our pupils have a belonging within the school and wider community.
